Coldplay's "Strawberry Swing" iPhone App
So as most of you know, I went to that Coldplay concert yesterday. Possibly one of the greatest experiences I was so blessed to have. I couldn't get HQ pics/vids but I'll post a few things up later tonight or tomorrow anyways.
Regardless of that, Coldplay has released a new free iPhone app based on their new "Strawberry Swing" video. It includes a live news feed, the Coldplay video catalogue, and the "Strawberry Swing" game. Sounds interesting, huh?

Artist of the Week: Coldplay
So I changed my mind about AOTW this week. Originally I didn't want to give an up-and-coming artist the disadvantage of a smaller week for a feature, but then I decided that I really don't need to make it an independent artist. I chose an artist that can spare the one-day loss. This band is Coldplay. But the main reason is because I'm going to their concert on Thursday (!!!) and it felt fitting.
They aren't really hip-hop, but they've worked with lyrical giants like Jay-Z and Kanye West and made a mark on this genre like many other bands are doing lately. The internet has given people all over the world to share their music and some of these people began mixing genres. The industry noticed this and began doing the same with original songs. Hip-hop bands and rock bands began collaborating a lot more after this boom of mash-up music. This wasn't the first wave, though; remember Run DMC & Aerosmith? But anyways, back to Coldplay..
I can't even remember the first time I listened to my to-be favorite rock band ever. It was probably "Clocks" or "The Scientist" that got me into them; but I've loved them ever since I can remember. Originally being coined as "Christian Rock", Coldplay began composing new and innovative music and soon lost that tag and became an "Alternative" band. Mixing an abundance of piano and strings along with the usual rock instruments such as guitars and drums, Coldplay's sound can only be described as "harmonic beauty". Deep meanings, intelligent metaphors, and songs that get stuck in your head for days, and not to mention four-time multi-platinum-ers, this band is definitely one of the greatest of all time.

D-Sisive: Joker with a Mic [WFSL Interview]
D-Sisive is a hip-hop artist from Toronto, Canada. If you haven't noticed yet, he is currently WhatFeelingsSoundLike (WFSL-beatwizemusic.blogspot.com) Artist of the Week. To fit the week's theme, I got to ask him a couple questions. I already knew this was going to end up different than most interviews. Not only was I right, but I was glad to get something more than the usual, generic answers one would usually hear. This dude D is definitely something different, not only in his music, but also in his personality. He's the type of guy you'd chill with at a bar, have a beer or two and just have a good time talking. And to top it all off, he's a great artist with a very bright future. Here it is - Joker with a Mic: An Interview with D-Sisive..
Beatwize: Hey, what's good D? It's good to finally have you on the blog. To start off, let's get a quick bio of you for the readers.
D-Sisive: Go to http://www.myspace.com/dsisive and read the boring, drawn out bio. Haha.
Beatwize: What got you into hip-hop music?
D-Sisive: A Nightmare on Elm Street. My obsession with Freddy Krueger led to my obsession with anything related to the film. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's Nightmare on my Street being one of them. A glow in the dark t-shirt being another. I bought He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper for that song only. Until then, the only music I owned was Aerosmith: Toys in the Attic and the La Bamba soundtrack on cassette. I no longer wanted to be Richie Valens. Will Smith was it. 19 years later, my new sitcom is finally in production.
Beatwize: Wow, that's definitely something different. "Let the Children Die" came out earlier this year, one of my personal favorites. What can current and future fans expect from you next?
D-Sisive: Jonestown. November 18/09.
Beatwize: Who and what are your greatest inspirations as an artist?
D-Sisive: Who? Argar & Joan-Anne Christoff. Kalpna Patel. David Bowie. Lou Reed. Rufus Wainwright. David Lynch. Brian Wilson. Crispin Glover. Randy 'Macho Man' Savage. And the list goes on...What? Sewers. Boa Staffs. Turtles. Headband-FaceMasks. Sai's. Nunchucks. Swords. Red. Yellow. Blue. Purple. Pizza. And the list goes on...
Beatwize: That's..interesting. You've worked with numerous Canadian hip-hop artists, some much more known than others. Who do you think was the most enjoyable to work with?
D-Sisive: Muneshine and The Arkeologists. The Arkeologists are responsible for waking me out of my hibernation. If krates never leaked Kneecaps, none of this would have happened. Muneshine is an amazing Rapper-Producer. Our chemistry is insanity. We knock out songs like nothing. Written-Produced-Mixed-Mastered-Marketed-Released-Billboard top 100 all in one day. Last night Muneshine and I were eating macaroons and watching the Jack Nicholson film, Wolf. The macaroons looked like dog shit. When bitten, the coconut made them look like white dog shit. Mune said 'if dog shit tasted like this, I'd eat dog shit all day, son.' That was pretty amazing.
Beatwize: Which artists would you want to work with in the near future?
D-Sisive: Jason Schwartzman. He's an incredible talent. I'm obsessed with his music right now. Andre 3000. Tom waits. DangerMouse. Grafh. There's quite a few.
Beatwize: What artists do you dream to work with?
D-Sisive: David Bowie. As far as I'm concerned, he's the be all end all. The king.
Beatwize:Who is your favorite artist at current, and why?
D-Sisive: Coconut Records. Jason Schwartzman's project. I just recently found out he made music and I love it. Also, the new DangerMouse and Sparklehorse project Dark Night of the Soul with David Lynch. Everything about that project is brilliant.
Beatwize: Are you currently working on any projects?
D-Sisive: I'm always working on new projects. Building my Prince Vault. I'm also focusing on getting the world to listen to Let The Children Die. It's my baby. He's going to be a boxer someday. I can tell by this picture of him with his hands up. Isn't he cute? He's going to be in next months Sears' catalogue.
Beatwize: Anything else you would like to say to the fans?
D-Sisive: Thank you for being a friend. Travelled down the road and back again. Your heart is true. You're a pal and a confidant. And if you threw a party, invited everyone you knew. You would see the biggest gift would be from me. And the card attached would say...Thank you for being a friend.
Beatwize: Lmao..thank you so much for your time.
D-Sisive: No, thank you...For being a friend.

Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys Diagnosed with Cancer
I wish Yauch and his friends and family the best during this time. It's not easy to go through something like this. Stand strong & keep believing.
"Adam “MCA” Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch’s vocal chords.
Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances to allow time for Yauch’s surgery and recovery. The release of the band’s forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will also be pushed back.
Paraphrasing from a video statement on Beastieboys.com, Yauch said, “I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we’ll release the record and play some shows. It’s a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because i was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later.”"

Artist of the Week: D-Sisive
D-Sisive, a rapper from Toronto, has a very unique and interesting style. A type of character that will grab you from word-one, but will leave you baffled from that point on. A dark, yet humorous personality, all-the-while intelligent and thought-provoking. D is many things, and a great lyricist is one on that list. With collaborations with Classified, continuing work with Muneshine, and a Juno in hand, D-Sisive has set his mark in Canadian hip-hop.
The first time I heard D-Sisive was on "Wonderful World", and it didn't even take me a minute into the song to realize this guy was something different. Large glasses while standing on what looked like a farm, I could tell I was in for a completely new type of rap. I was right, but not in the bad sense. He brought on dark truth about the state of the world like I've never heard it before. I had to hear more; that brought me to "Daydream". Soon I realized that I was ready to buy his album. D-Sisive hooked me, as I know he'll hook you.
D-Sisive has a few releases including his debut album "Let The Children Die". Don't get startled by the name, there's a deeper meaning to the title that you'll have to figure out for yourself. Other releases include "Nobody With A Notepad (plus 3) EP", "Like This (plus 3) EP", and "The Book", all of which are must-haves.
This week I'll give you a chance to dig into the D-Sisive crate. A mind like none other and a style that will leave you wanting more. The coming days will include videos, possibly audio, and an interview with the man himself. Stay tuned! But, if you already want more, check out the following sites:

Saukrates and T-R are pretty sick as well; this lineup is a Canadian bomb, no joke. This is off Tona (MC) & Lyfe's (producer) new album "Direct Deposit" which you can cop on iTunes right now. Here's a link to the DOWNLOAD of this track. And Tona as a website as well. Now, enough of that, let's get to the video..

One of my favorite rappers signed with one of my favorite label collectives; this is too good! Imagine Ev & Slug over an Ant beat? Or even Ev & Murs? Say word! Here's Ev's reaction to the news..
No I.D. Interview with Decatur Dan
Words from Dan: "The other day I got a chance to cash in on a favor that I must say was well worth the wait. The back end story is way to long so I’ll save it for another day. You may or may not have heard of my friend No I.D., he recently produced Jay-Z’s latest single off of the soon to release Blueprint 3. It’s a track titled Death Of Autotune, which by the title alone you can see why it warrants much hype. I had the idea to get his thoughts about the song on camera, being that he made the song. So I ran the idea by my buddy Zach Wolfe and I knew with his years of expertise we had a mini documentary in the making. No I.D. has been in and out of the city lately so I caught up with him while he was in town for one day. The documentary takes place at the St. Regis hotel in Atlanta’s famous Buckhead region of the city. Enough talking, start watching, press play andlet the story begin."

CJ the Genesis - Yea, I'm A Nerd
So I copped this tape 2-3 days ago and checked it out. Right off the bat I was impressed by CJ. He creatively uses video game samples (I think they're all N64 songs) and raps over them with his own original style. Me being a huge fan of N64 since I don't even know when made this even more fun to listen to. I was catching all of these Mario Kart samples and I absolutely loved it. I'm sure you will too. Cop that quick!!

The iLLiad - Nostalgics
Me and iLLiad go way back; back when he was known as Fate L. We did a project together and worked on other collaborations. I used to think he was a good artist that still needed some growth. Last night I decided to check out his new project "Nostalgics", and honestly..he's grown. A lot. This tape (album?) really goes hard and I give this a "must-have" rating. Check it out.
